Assembled in the EU

Already for over 35 years Coltrading (CTE is an expert in actuation solenoids and actuators. While we started as a Synchro-Start distributor, we understand many customers of ours are not aware that today, we operate a solenoid and actuator final assembly facility in Hillegom, the Netherlands.

Coltrading (CTE, nowadays, cooperates independently with world-class manufacturers to continue to maintain the availability of:

  • (former) Synchro-Start solenoids
  • (former) Barber Colman DYNA actuators;
  • Woodward solenoids;
  • Woodward proportional (APECS) actuators.

It came to be in 2009, when Coltrading (CTE was appointed Point of Excellence by Woodward Inc. for Mobile and Industrial Products, APECS controls and DYNA products for the EMEA region. We then started developing our own assembly line to continue the production of (obsolete and inactive) Woodward actuators and solenoids. This was done in close cooperation with Woodward to provide the continued supply for relatively lower volume OEM and aftermarket.

Three years later, after this initial transition phase, Woodward completely ceased any supply of specifically actuation solenoids in lower volumes and Coltrading (CTE increased its assembly capacity to provide support and availability for solenoids, actuation products and spare part demands. We now serve multiple OEM’s in the mobile and industrial sector through our assembly plant in the Netherlands. At the same time, we are also able to produce legacy products (even in lower-volumes) and slow-moving items. All this, to provide our customers with a cost-effective solution to prevent obsolescence of individual parts that can otherwise potentially hamper their operations, or force them to do extensive new machinery investments.

This model proved fruitful and today, we work closely with several of the original manufacturers, who manufacture most of our original parts and components for the assembly of solenoids and actuators. Coltrading (CTE can currently supply roughly 90% of legacy solenoids and actuators ever brought to the market. As we do not perform “parts trade”, it’s not so much about whether products are on stock, or inactive, or obsolete. We can just assemble in-house, according to the required part number or our customer’s technical requirements. This results in:

  • having almost all items our customers request readily available;
  • minimal lead times for special items; and
  • high legacy product availability.

Furthermore, due to the fact that we have our own assembly facility and hold a proportional buffer stock, we can fulfil:

  • 85% of our customer demand for actuation solenoids and;
  • 65% APECS and DYNA actuator demand;

between only a couple of hours and a maximum of 2 days. The remaining part we can also supply, nevertheless, with a little longer lead times.

The knowledge and experience we gained with assembling and developing actuation solenoids has enabled us in 2015 to start our sister venture; CTE Control Systems. They assist our customers in developing new and alternative solenoids, actuator products and even entire control systems from original OEM quality components.

Our solenoid and actuator products are branded as CTE products™ and carry their distinct CTE product order number. They’re build with only genuine parts and components (as long as available). When components or parts become unavailable, we partner up with quality component suppliers to maintain the availability of legacy solenoids and actuators to the original factory specifications.

If you're unsure if a Synchro-Start, Woodward, Electro Force, Barber Colman, DYNA, or otherwise branded solenoid or actuator:

  • Is still in production; or
  • have trouble sourcing a specific part; or
  • have trouble identifying a replacement; or
  • have trouble with your application;

be sure to check with our Experts, who maintain a comprehensive Technical Database and Part Number cross-reference with an accumulated 35 years of product, application and market knowledge.
